چکیده

Abstract A robust three-dimensional multiscale structural optimization framework with concurrent coupling between scales is presented. Concurrent ensures that only the microscale data required to evaluate macroscale model during each iteration of collected and results in considerable computational savings. This represents principal novelty this permits a previously intractable number design variables be used parametrization geometry, which turn enables accessibility greater range extremal point properties optimization. Additionally, stored reusable database, further reducing expense Application methodology structures precise functionally graded mechanical over two derived, satisfy one or multiple functional objectives. Two classical compliance minimization problems are solved within paper benchmarked against Solid Isotropic Material Penalization (SIMP)–based topology Only small fraction microstructure database derive optimized solutions, demonstrates significant reduction comparison contemporary sequential frameworks. In addition, both cases demonstrate equivalent SIMP-based optimizations.

An optimization-based multiscale coupling method

An optimization based algorithm is proposed for solving elliptic problems with highly oscillatory coefficients that do not exhibit scale separation in a subregion of the physical domain. The given method, written as a constrained minimization problem couples a numerical homogenization method in the subregion of the physical domain with scale separation with a fine scale solver in subregions wit...

A practical multiscale approach for optimization of structural damping

A simple and practical multiscale approach suitable for topology optimization of structural damping in a component ready for additive manufacturing is presented. The approach consists of two steps: First, the homogenized loss factor of a two-phase material is maximized. This is done in order to obtain a range of isotropic microstructures that have a connected stiff material phase. Second, the s...

Structural coupling between FKBP12 and buried water.

Globular proteins often contain structurally well-resolved internal water molecules. Previously, we reported results from a molecular dynamics study that suggested that buried water (Wat3) may play a role in modulating the structure of the FK506 binding protein-12 (FKBP12) (Park and Saven, Proteins 2005; 60:450-463). In particular, simulations suggested that disrupting a hydrogen bond to Wat3 b...
